APIENs Directions

We would like to invite you to the APIENs/Directions - Part 1 virtual workshop held the 16th of October from 09.30 to 13.00, and Part 2 Hackathon, in person on the 16th-17th December in Lancaster.

APIENs/Directions - Part 1 virtual stakeholder workshop

At this stakeholder-focussed event, there will be an introduction/recap to APIENs (the Air Pollution Impacts on Ecosystems Networks), and a preliminary gap analysis from data submissions to date to provide interested parties with an overview of the current state of the project. The bulk of the virtual workshop would be taken up with stakeholders exploring their priority questions and/or future data collection and/or analysis asks; there will likely be opportunities to contribute ideas where the data can provide added value to policy areas beyond air pollution. Finally, we would present immediate next steps, including reporting the findings of the virtual stakeholder workshop and preparations for the in-person hackathon.

APIENs/Directions - Part 2 hackathon

APIENs now needs to move towards better data integration and use. So, we would like YOUR input and help as we consider how APIENs data could be analysed, visualised, integrated and put to use. Here the focus is on specialists (at whatever career stage) in handling and analysing sparse and complicated datasets, integration of datasets and/or interest in environmental change impacts on ecosystems, whether caused by air pollution or otherwise. UKCEH (the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology), Lancaster University and Defra, with the support of the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science | CEEDS, are holding the “APIENs/Directions” Hackathon on 16th and 17th December 2024. This will be an in-person event at Lancaster Environment Centre, to which you are warmly invited.

After the conclusions of APIENs/Directions Part 1 and Part 2, CEEDS have asked us to contribute to a Blog for the CEEDS website. In addition, we will run a CEEDS seminar to present findings in 2025. We anticipate the CEEDS workshop will also provide the springboard for manuscript preparation through the utilisation of data within APIENs.

If you would like to attend to the workshop and/or the hackathon please, email mikper@ceh.ac.uk.
