The survey recorded over 3000 epiphytes from 334 trees (Fraxinus excelsior) representing 74 lichen, 14 moss, 7 fungal and 3 algal species. There was a significant inverse relationship between diversity and NO(x). Diversity declined where NO(x) exceeded 70 microg m(-3) and NO2 exceeded 40 microg m(-3), suggesting a phytotoxic effect. However, there was a significant positive relationship between NO(x) and lichen abundance due to the ubiquitous distribution of pollution tolerant species, mainly associated with eutrophication. A scale of lichen sensitivity to NO(x) has been derived. %B Environmental Pollution %V 146 %P 299-310 %0 Generic %D 2007 %T Identifying ozone-sensitive communities of (semi-)natural vegetation suitable for mapping exceedance of critical levels %A Mills, G. %A Hayes, F. %A Jones, M.L.M. %A Cinderby, S. %B Environmental Pollution %V 146 %P 736-743 %0 Generic %D 2007 %T Meta-analysis of the relative sensitivity of semi-natural vegetation species to ozone. %A Hayes, F. %A Jones, M.L.M. %A Mills, G. %A Ashmore, M. %B Environmental Pollution %V 146 %P 754-762 %G eng %0 Generic %D 2007 %T Predicting community sensitivity to ozone, using Elleberg indicator values. %A Jones, L. %A Hayes, F. %A Mills, G. %A Sparks, T. %A Fuhrer, F. %B Environmental Pollution %V 146 %P 744-753 %G eng %0 Thesis %D 2006 %T Ammonia deposition to semi-natural vegetation %A Jones, M.R. %I University of Dundee %C Dundee, Scotland, UK %V Ph.D. %G eng %0 Generic %D 2006 %T Atmospheric nitrogen deposition has caused nitrogen enrichment and eutrophication of lakes in the northern hemisphere. %A Bergstorm, A.K. %A Jansson, M. %B Global Change Biology %V 12 %P 635-643 %G eng %N 4 %0 Generic %D 2006 %T Detecting changes in epiphytic lichen communities at sites affected by atmospheric ammonia from agricultural sources %A Wolseley, P.
