Key Concerns:

There is evidence that acidification of fresh water has a negative effect on the growth and reproduction of various species of freshwater sponges from Germany and Norway (Kahlert & Neumann 1997, Okland & Okland 1996). However there is no published research available for Britain and Northern Ireland.
