| Welcome to the UK
Air Pollution Information System (APIS). Air pollution is one of
the major environmental issues in the UK, with impacts occurring
at local, regional and global scales. Much is known about the impacts
on natural heritage features, with major steps already being taken
in the development of abatement strategies both at national and
international levels. It is clear, however, that there are still
major gaps in the scientific understanding. This site provides a
searchable database and information on pollutants and their impacts
on habitats and species.

| New Critical Loads for Nutrient Nitrogen Critical loads for nutrient nitrogen have recently been revised under the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution. We have now updated APIS to reflect the new values. This affects the critical loads information provided in the Search by Location; Search by Pollutant; Search by Habitats or Species pages.
In addition, the Site Relevant Critical Loads (SRCL) pages have been updated to reflect the new nutrient nitrogen critical loads. At the same the time the SRCL tool has been expanded to include A/SSSIs and new deposition data for 2005 and 2020. Further information can be found on the new SRCL pages. [these pages have a revised format and will in due course form part of a new look APIS site]
A table of the new/revised critical loads has also been produced, this provides a comparison with 2003 critical loads values.
